‘GOOD COP/BAD COP’: ANOTHER SHOW IN THE LONG LINE OF LIGHTHEARTED COP COMEDIES
A recognizable TV star headlines this lighthearted TV dramedy that is CW’s Good Cop/Bad Cop.
Good Cop/Bad Cop (2025) First Impression TV Show Review
Keeping the law is all in the family for one family in a small pacific town. Lou (Leighton Meester) is responsible and dependable. She’s also the only police detective in the Eden Vale force where her dad, Hank (Clancy Brown) is the police chief. Things between him and his kids are a little complicated, but Hank still wants to bring his kids together, and so when his son, Henry (Luke Cook), who isn’t exactly speaking to his family, makes detective, the Eden Vale force now has two detectives.
This complicates the relationship between this family that now also has to figure out a working dynamic.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘THE SPENCER SISTERS’ IS ENTERTAINING ONE SEASON SHOW
‘GOOD COP/BAD COP’: ANOTHER SHOW IN THE LINEUP OF LIGHTHEARTED COP COMEDIES. #LeightonMeester stars in this CW dramedy. #GoodCopBadCop Share on XWhen it comes to cop dramedies, I love ones that have some humor and lightheartedness. This CW show, as is the brand of this network, has both (especially the humor). There is banter in this and it’s a cop show. Of course, there are also complexities of family dynamics as well. Also in the mix, because what is a fun show without silly things, are frustrating locals and odd criminals, too. The show doesn’t really reinvent anything, but the “family affair” elements of the plot make it unique.
Returning to TV is Leighton Meester in this role that I’d imagine is different from her role in the famous show she’s known for, which is Gossip Girl. It’s early days and so, of course, there is quite a lot of story (even with a limited episode count) yet to come in this first season, but based on this first episode, Good Cop/Bad Cop is thoroughly entertaining. One irritation I have with the show is that most of the guys seem a little idiotic compared to Lou, but I’ll just hope for some growth. (I like equally smart partners and peers.) It’s a good deal of fun and I anticipate seeing what else is to come. The cast is likable, and the draw is there because of the leading lady. In conclusion, the show has potential to entertain in fun ways.

Content: Nothing of significant to note in this first episode of a TV-14 rated show. Someone is shot, but it isn’t graphic. Later there’s another body we see with a wound.
