THE WEEKLY NEWS 198: THE WEEK OF VERY LITTLE NEW

Back at it with our end of the week pop culture and weekly news-y roundup collection. Apart from TV show stories, which I always usually find, it’s always a mystery as to what will fit this roundup. Let’s see what we have to share this go round. the weekly news 198

THE WEEKLY NEWS 198

NETFLIX in the NEWS

Netflix had a couple of news stories this past week that fits what we talk about here, but full disclosure, one story is old news, and I simply forgot to share it from the week it broke.

Returning August 28th is the second season of My Life with the Walter Boys. The show’s second year, according to the Netflix trailer Youtube page, will follow Jackie returning to the Walter family (if you all remember, she ran away at the end of season one because the love triangle thing got weird) where she is “Hoping for a fresh start in Silver Falls, Jackie discovers second chances aren’t guaranteed when unresolved feelings and small-town tensions resurface.”

Before its seventh season drops (which has no official release yet), Netflix has renewed its popular show Virgin River for an eighth, 10-episode run year. According to the streamer, it announces this with the headline and subline reading “Virgin River Is Returning for Season 8. Good news! More adventures with Mel, Jack, Doc, Hope, and co. are on the way.”

Then, in old news, Netflix did renew Ransom Canyon. The modern western romance with Minka Kelley and Josh Duhamel. Direct reporting from Netflix says that we haven’t seen the last of the show (or as I say, these characters) with a second season on the way “the addictive series set in a small Texas town where steamy love triangles, decades-long family drama, and contentious land disputes collide: April Blair’s show has been renewed for Season 2.” Will you be watching?

The first season’s synopsis reads, in part, “With three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life. At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past.” – Netflix Media

LAST THINGS

In sad TV news, Masterpiece on PBS announced that the likely 2026 drop of Grantchester’s eleventh season will be the show’s final year. The show, which did begin filming this month, will bring back its core cast. From the news release, Daisy Coulam, writer, series creator and executive producer, said: “At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We’ve been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen. For over a decade now – cast and crew (many who’ve been there since the beginning) have met each summer to film. And it’s been an absolute joy. Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters. Thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester. [And] to everyone who’s been a part of the show in any way – big or small. I’ll miss you terribly.”

According to different Internet reports, Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg all Blue Bloods seasons) is moving to Boston because his son Sean is there. Following his family, but on his own terms, into law enforcement. Andrew Terraciano had the role for all 14 seasons. Now Mika Amonsen will play the character. His credits mostly include guest spots on shows like Reacher or The Spencer Sisters. So it will be nice to see a newcomer in a lead role!

Also making headlines in the world of pop culture is Swag, the new album from Justin Bieber. This is his first since 2021 and the album has 21 tracks.
