13 FEMALE ACTION CHARACTERS WHO RULE THE SCREEN
Given our recent gender swap cultural discussion, it seemed a fun idea of build off that and discuss some of the female action characters we love. Because no matter which type of action star is “popular,” we still find many different types of action characters. Some of them being fan favorite ladies who, let’s be real, know how to kick some serious butt. Today we’re going to spotlight some of them.

13 FEMALE ACTION CHARACTERS WHO RULE THE SCREEN. Talking some of the memorable female action stars. Which ones would be on your list? #ActionMovies #FemaleHeroes #FemaleActionMovies #FemaleCharacters #Movies #Movie #MovieList #List… Share on XSome of these ladies are new fan favorites and newer characters. Others are characters we grew up with, inspiring some of us. Then maybe others still could be people we met because of our mother or grandmother’s love. Or perhaps we first met them in a book and then later on screen. No matter what, these female action characters are pretty memorable.
FEMALE ACTION CHARACTERS
ELIZABETH BENNET from PRIDE + PREJUDICE + ZOMBIES
Even as un-Austen as this character is (in some ways), I do love this version of Elizabeth Bennet.
CHARLIE’S ANGELS from CHARLIE’S ANGELS
Depending on what medium you meet these women (70s or 2011 TV show; 2000 or 2019 film) you’ll find their “skills” change. In some they’re easier to take seriously, and in others, it’s more of a “campy” style likely due to the era the production was made in. But either way, these stories are led by the ladies.
LARA CROFT from LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER
Based on a video game character, Lara Croft is one I don’t remember well. I think I did find the film a bit dull, which surprised me, but it doesn’t change the fact that Lara is fierce.
LARA CROFT from TOMB RAIDER (2018)
A re-make of the Angelina Jolie led film, this one is different than its predecessors though its basic tenets are the same. Still I think the characters come off as a bit different, too.
KATNISS EVERDEEN from THE HUNGER GAMES
I go back and forth on whether I like Katniss, but overall, I think she’s a fierce character. She’s pretty emotionless but don’t fault her terribly for this because her circumstances don’t allow for her to be emotional.
HANNA from HANNA
It’s been too long since I saw this so I don’t remember if I like the film (different than the show, but the same story). I think I had some reservations about it, but cannot deny its titular character is one tough girl.
MEGAN from BARELY LETHAL
This film is silly and “cute,” but it’s also a fun movie to enjoy once in a while.
MULAN from MULAN
Much as I wanted to love the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Mulan, I just didn’t. I think the film lost some of the charm of the 90s animated film which is where it lost me because that’s what I was expecting. The live action is also much more serious which is why it lost the charm.
DIANA PRINCE from WONDER WOMAN
I mean we all love Diana, right? She’s fierce.
EVELYN SALT from SALT
This is perhaps the one on this female action characters list that’s most fun because we’re never sure if she’s good, bad or somewhere in between. We have a portrait of what she is by the end, but for fear of spoiling something, I’ll leave it at that.
SELENE from UNDERWORLD
I’ve never seen these because a: I’m not into the whole vampire and supernatural creature genre and b: I’m really not into R-rated supernatural flicks. However, I know many like Kate Beckinsale’s Selene and it does seem as though she’s a fierce heroine.
JANE SMITH from MR. AND MRS. SMITH
This may be my all addition that isn’t solely a female led film. This one is about a married couple who’s life has gone “stale,” but also they both live secret lives. I think it’s pretty fair to list Jane on this list because it’s about a partnership even though it’s one that has flaws.
RACHEL STONE from HEART OF STONE
The character who inspired all my discussion post and through that, this list. Rachel is a new character we just met in the Netflix film and she’s fierce, talented and brave. Plus, the film is all her show. Stream exclusively on Netflix
