5 OF THE UNIQUE CHRISTMAS MOVIES YOU CAN WATCH THIS YEAR
When it comes to seasons changing, there’s perhaps nothing more fondly anticipated than Christmas movie season. Networks like Hallmark or Great American Family roll out their new movies before Halloween and keep them coming throughout the two months to follow. The love of these movies has grown so much that instead of five premieres, networks put out 20 to 40 new movies. There’s something about the comfort and familiarity of Christmas movies that people have fallen in love with. And while I too have favorites that use the typical tropes, finding that one unique Christmas movie is bliss. 5 unique christmas movies

Here are five of the unique Christmas movies you can watch this year.
5 UNIQUE CHRISTMAS MOVIES of 2023
A CHRISTMAS FOR THE AGES (Great American Family)
Why: Full disclosure, I haven’t finished this one yet, so I reserve the right to also find this a fail, but what I’ve seen is sweet and unique. Natasha Bure is lead in this GAF romance playing a daughter and granddaughter who plans elaborate Christmas festivities inspired by the time period of the four generations of women in her tight-knit family. If faith is important to you, you’ll like those elements, too.
CHRISTMAS ON WINDMILL WAY (Great American Family)
Why: This isn’t a unique Christmas movie when you look at the plot (fighting to save a popular tourist destination), but what gives it the edge to make this list is doing away with the miscommunication trope. That alone is, as any student of the genre knows, a big deal and I’m proud of this script for banishing it.
NEVER BEEN CHRIS’D (Hallmark Channel)
Why: I suspect I’m the only person who enjoyed this one. It’s different, and for many it will likely be too much of a “player” title, but I think what makes it unique is that curiosity of the guessing game. Plus given this IS Hallmark, I think there are lots of things the script does to indicate the character isn’t a flirt. 5 unique christmas movies
THE SANTA SUMMIT (Hallmark Channel)
Why: Though heavy on the I-only-need-my-friends and guys-should-be-more-sensitive messaging, this one is memorable. It follows Jordan and her two best friends who, while on a nightlong “Santa Summit” celebration, meets a guy she shares a connection with, only to then lose him in the crowd. The plot also fits nicely with the recent study about Gen Z wanting more platonic relationships in TV.
WHERE ARE YOU, CHRISTMAS? (Hallmark Channel)
Why: This has the familiar girl-returns-reluctantly-to-hometown story, but it’s unique because of how it tells the story. Christmas disappears, and the production uses black-and-white filming, which puts us in mind of nostalgic favorites like It’s a Wonderful Life. Plus, Michael Rady stars, a fan favorite for many.
No matter what you are looking for this year, you’re sure to find something to enchant you. These are just five of the many Christmas movies you too can enjoy this year. There’s road trips, and secret shoppers, royalty and business owners, all with plenty of mistletoe.
