TEN OF THE BOOKS THAT PROVIDE AN ESCAPE (PLUS FIVE I HOPE DO)
When it comes to reading, I’m sure we all have our different reasons for enjoying the hobby. Some it’s more for learning purposes. For others of us, it’s enjoyment. Then there may be some of us readers who read to find escape. This is why our list today is about ten books that provide escape. Because sometimes that’s all we need from a book, right?
LIST | COZY and CUTE AUTUMN MOVIES TO ENJOY
I’m sure we all also have a different meaning or type of read that provides escape. For me, it’s likely mostly contemporary, but most of all, it’s a book that will make me forget about any reality and not only pull me in, but make me think about the book and actually want to return to reading it versus reading it because of a kind of obligation. Like any book list we share here, I’m not sure if I’ll find any that I haven’t talked about (too much!) already, but hey, part of the reason to have a website or blog is to be able to repeat fangirl about favorite things, right? Let’s see what books fit our topic.
TEN BOOKS THAT PROVIDE ESCAPE
(AND FIVE I HOPE DO)
THE GRAND TOUR (SERIES), LISA BERGREN
Reason: follows a heroine in the 1900s who goes on her grand tour which means travel. Goodreads
THE GEOGRAPHY of LOST THINGS, JESSICA BRODY
Reason: I think this one has some sense of sorrow, but it’s also a fun read that I did, surprisingly, quite enjoy. There’s also a road trip. Goodreads
HAPPINESS for BEGINNERS, KATHERINE CENTER
Reason: I quite enjoyed this novel, the first I read by Center and most of all I loved that while there is bittersweetness, the novel is overall joyful and fun and all about discovering the good things in life. Goodreads
THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY, JENNY HAN
Reason: I don’t remember all the specifics of this one, but I think it was fun and very much a cute “escapism” read. Goodreads
MY LADY JANE, CYNTHIA HAND, BRODI ASHTON and JODI MEADOWS
Reason: Way better than the Amazon series, this one definitely provides an “escape” with all of its magic and alternate to the real (and sad) historical events this is inspired by. Goodreads
BRIDES of MONTCLAIR (SERIES), JANE PEART
Reason: the series moves through various eras as it follows the many brides through generations of the Montclair family. I love how many eras we get to visit and of course, there’s romance (and sorrow), too. Goodreads
TEN OF THE BOOKS THAT PROVIDE AN ESCAPE (PLUS FIVE I HOPE DO). Sharing a list of books that provide escape. #Escapism #BookList #TTT #TopTenBooks #TopTenList #TopTenTuesday Share on XTHE AUSTEN ESCAPE, KATHERINE REAY
Reason: It’s in the title so of course we have to use this one. Goodreads
THE STATISTICAL PROBABILITY of LOVE at FIRST SIGHT, JENNFER E. SMITH
Reason: Loved this book so much, and it’s all about going towards something neither character really wants to do. Yet the book still feels like a memorable kind of reader escape. It’s another one that has bittersweet themes, but is overall an uplifting story that’s quite charming. (The Netflix adaptation is also VERY good.) Goodreads
SUMMER of YES, COURTNEY WALSH
Reason: This one is a kind of road trip-y novel about rediscovering joy in life and saying yes to all the things that we are normally “afraid” of or refuse to try. Goodreads
LOVE and GELATO, JENNA EVANS WELCH
Reason: Takes us to Italy, yes, but also a heroine who stays (during her trip) in a graveyard! Goodreads
FIVE BOOKS I HOPE PROVIDES ESCAPE
IN PARIS WITH YOU, CLEMENTINE BEAUVAIS
Reason: We’d visit Paris in this title and it just seems like it’d be a fun escape novel. Goodreads
THE GETAWAY LIST, EMMA LORD
Reason: This one is described as “inescapable romance” and full of Lord’s “signature cheer,” so of course that sounds like escapism at its finest! Plus, the yellow cover is so cheerful. Goodreads
DASHED, AMANDA QUAIN
Reason: Isn’t any Austen retelling (this of Sense and Sensibility), escape reason enough? Plus, this one sounds like a ton of fun! Goodreads
THE WEDDING RINGER, KERRY REA
Reason: This one sounds so fun, and is one I hope will be nothing more than a close-off-everything-else-and-escape novel. Goodreads
PLACES WE’VE NEVER BEEN, KASIE WEST
Reason: I do love a Kasie West novel and this one, based on the title, seems like it’ll be a great escapism read! Goodreads

I love My Lady Jane and was going to add it to my list and then forgot! Glad to see it here.
My escape books
It’s SUCH a fun read. :)
I have a physical copy of The Geography of Lost Things, and I keep meaning to add it to my seasonal TBR.

I did quite enjoy the book. :)
I hope those last five books are 5-star reads for you.
I hope so too, Lydia! And thanks. :)
Love and Gelato sounds fun! I like to read books set in Italy. I am adding that to my list!
It was fun! Quirky and really sweet, which was just what I needed at the time. :)
I haven’t read any of these, but do have a couple on my TBR. Hope you enjoy those last five as well.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Fun! Hope those you added to your TBR are grand reads for you. :)
I loved Places We’ve Never Been, so hope you will too! Love and Gelato is still on my TBR, it sounds like such a fun, escapist read indeed!
YAY! I’m hopeful for that one since I do adore Kasie’s books. Love & Gelato was a quirky and fun read, and I needed that. :)
I own The Austen Escape, but haven’t read it yet. I also have The Summer of Yes out from the library, my hold finally came in, but haven’t read it yet either (I think it’s next). I hope the five books do provide a good escape when you get to them!
The Austen Escape as I remember was so fun. And I hope The Summer of Yes is a good read for you. There’s so many books that fall into this kind of “escape” category and I cannot wait to see how many I enjoy. :)
I didn’t love The Summer of Yes as much as I have other books by Walsh, it took a while to get into, but I did enjoy the ending. Have a great week!
Bummer! That’s never fun. Anytime I’m disappointed in a novel I’m anticipating it’s a kind of letdown that sometimes makes me less excited for their next novel. Hope Courtney’s next book is another winner – and I’m so glad you enjoyed the end! :)
Ooooh so many great authors here! I love Katherine Center but haven’t read this book, so it’s probably next on my list. The Getaway List by Emma Lord too. And I loved My Lady Jane and the tv series so much, I’m devastated they canceled it!
I’ve read two by Katherine and am anticipating more! Also My Lady Jane was fun and The Getaway List looks fabulous. :)
I don’t remember specifics about Lady Jane other than it was a whole lot of fun and there weren’t a lot of books at the time providing its level of silliness.
I think that’s a great description of My Lady Jane, Alicia! It was unique and is such a fun read. :)
The stories by Jenna Evans Welch are heartwarming, they are realistic and she talks about heavy topics, but in a way, it feels sweet, and love how descriptive is the setting
Her books do deal in heavy topics but I think they are indeed still heartwarming. They have something about them that makes us want to keep reading. :)
I just got The Summer of Yes. I’m very excited to get to that story. 😀
Fun! Hope you enjoy, Nicole. :)
They sound like good books.
I’m currently watching My Lady Jane and keep thinking about trying the book at some point.
Have a great week!

The book is different and in my opinion, quite a lot better. :) Hope you enjoy if you decide to read the novel, Emily!
Wonderful list, Rissi! Sorry for the late reply. I really loved the escapism of a different Jenny Han book, and Love and Gelato sounds amazing. I’m going to add it to my TBR now.
Love and Gelato was SUPER fun. Bittersweet in places, but mostly upbeat and good. Hope you enjoy if you read it, Leah and yes! Jenny Han’s has great escapism feels. :)
