BE A TIME TRAVELER: TWENTY MOVIES ALL ABOUT TRAVEL through TIME
Finding things that we haven’t talked about much is sometimes a challenge. It’s also sometimes ok because some subjects we believe are worth “studying” time and again. This means sometimes repeat spotlights no matter the number because some things don’t go out of style. It’s December eighth and as it would happen, one of the silly 2024 holidays is “Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day” which inspires us to look at the movies about time travel or TV shows or even just characters who time travel.

BE A TIME TRAVELER: TWENTY MOVIES ALL ABOUT TRAVEL through TIME. #TimeTravel movies… how many have you seen? #MovieList #Movies #RomanceMovies Share on XSome of these movies and characters are actually some of my favorites. This does surprise me because honestly, I am not a great fan of science fiction which I think is often the genre a time travel flick is stuck under. Regardless, some of these titles sure do make things fun. We also always want to find movies of varying styles. Let’s research the type of film and see what we discover.
MOVIES ABOUT TIME TRAVEL
13 GOING on 30
Jennifer Garner is well known and famous for this role as Jenna Rink, a girl whose wish to be thirty along with “flirty and thriving” comes true the day after her birthday.
PG-13 is the rating for sexual content (conversation, innuendo, a man comes out of the bathroom and drops his towel, we don’t see anything) and some minor profanity | Digitally purchase the film on places like Amazon or steam, at publication, with Pluto TV
ABOUT TIME
This is one of those titles I delayed seeing (likely because it has an R-rating which is a type of film I don’t see often), but once I saw it, I discovered a delightful film. It’s about a man with a time traveling gene who, despite his personal happiness and triumphs, continues to revisit the past to see his father.
R is the rating for some innuendo (we see couples making out, talk of oral sex, in a state of undress), profanity (including the f-word) | Purchase digitally on places like Prime Video
THE ADAM PROJECT
Ryan Reynolds headlines this title about a man who returns to his past, coming years from the future, when he crash lands his aircraft during the year when he’s only twelve and struggling with the loss of his father.
PG-13 is the rating for some violence and minor profanity | Stream the film exclusively on Netflix
A BILTMORE CHRISTMAS
A seasonal Hallmark film, A Biltmore Christmas is about a woman writing a book who discovers she can travel back in time where she discovers the film set she’s come to the Biltmore Estate to research. This is actually one of the sweet time travel movies with an ending I didn’t anticipate.
TV-G is the rating | Stream the film, at publication (note, movies like this come and gone a lot!), on Hallmark+ or Netflix
A DISCOVERY of WITCHES
This is a TV series based on the novel of the same name about a woman who discovers she’s from a long line of witches. There’s vampires too. I only saw part of season one and liked some aspects and loathed others so I never went back. I also don’t remember the time travel, but research tells me it applies to this show with Matthew Goode.
TV-MA is the rating for sexual content and some frightening/supernatural scenes/images | Stream, at publication, with Acorn TV, AMC, MGM+, Netflix and Prime Video
EDGE of the GARDEN
Airing on Hallmark back in the day, this one tells the story of a man and woman who communicate while living in the same house… only fifty years apart.

SLIDING DOORS
An underrated drama, this one is actually adorable. Each time I rewatch it, I expect to enjoy but not love it, and I always do. Gwyneth Paltrow stars as a woman who’s life splits into two timelines. Perhaps not a traditional time travel movies list title, but I’m bending the unwritten rules to include it.
PG-13 is the rating for sexual content and innuendo as well as some profanity | Stream, at publication, with Peacock, Prime Video, Roku and Tubi
TIMELESS
A short-lived TV show, this brings together three strangers who travel back into the past through a special device in order to capture a man determined to change the course of history.
This show, though it only made it for two seasons, also has a romance that many fans rooted on and a camaraderie between the leads that (based on the few episodes I saw) is easy to love.
TV-14 is the rating | Purchase the episodes or show digitally on places like Amazon

THE TIME MACHINE
Wanting to alter events, an inventor travels to the future where he finds a warring between people.

THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE
There is more than one screen version of this story which is adapted from a novel. One is a miniseries with Rose Leslie (of Downton Abbey) and Theo James (Divergent). The other, and perhaps more mainstream is the feature adaptation in which Rachel McAdams plays one half of the titular role opposite Eric Bana. I don’t remember a great deal of the film, but I do remember liking Rachel and finding the film sad. It’s also ideally made for a time travel movies list!
PG-13 is the rating for sexual content and profanity | Stream, at publication, with Max
THE TOMORROW WAR
Chris Pratt leads this cast about a man who leaves his family to be dropped into a futuristic war that could threaten all of humanity.

TV-PG is the rating | Stream, at publication, Hallmark+ or Peacock
