Each year, Christmas movies bring with them some of the cutest and wackiest scenes or characters. Another thing they can bring is perpetuating the cultural thing that was (or still is?) the ugly Christmas sweater. As a result of this cultural trend, which is perhaps now dying off, we decided to look at some of the cute Christmas movies that have some of the best ugly Christmas sweaters. All of which we’re doing just to have some fun, and nothing more!

This scene doesn’t last long, but Andi does open a gaudy Christmas sweater from someone who truly matters to her and it’s an emotional scene which is why I’m adding it since it goes against type for most scenes like this.

BRADY from GROUNDED for CHRISTMAS
This film is a Lifetime title that strands two travelers together. While, technically, our leading man wears an “ugly Christmas shirt” in this film, we’re going to let it by and make it fit.

BRANDI from UNDERCOVER CHRISTMAS
This is a twenty-year-old Christmas movie that I’ve seen many times. It follows a cocktail waitress who is convinced by the FBI to testify against her boyfriend who has ties to the mob. When her handler must detour home unexpectedly, she spends Christmas with his family. While there, she brings peace to a situation where Jake’s niece is upset by a corny gift (an ugly Christmas sweater!) by asking for it herself. It’s a sweet scene.

the BRENNER BROTHERS from THREE WISER MEN and a BOY
Again, this isn’t exactly an ugly sweater, but still, these getups the fan favorite Brenner brothers is still fun and kind of out there. They’re all kinds of festive and fun and we all know the brothers wear these types of ensembles with pride because they all care most about brother Luke’s son.

CHARLIE from A SHOE ADDICT’S CHRISTMAS
Jean Smart’s Charlie wears all the festive attire, including sweaters! She wears them with style and even has a red hat to match.

In this sweet movie, our leading man trades a Christmas sweater in pursuit of a story, all of which turns out to be heartwarming and charming.

HARPER from A NOVEL NOEL
Not exactly a Christmas sweater, but still the elf getup Harper wears in A Novel Noel as a part of a Christmas activity game she plays with her bestie is still, well, a bit wacky! Regardless, we have to admire her confidence right?

HOLLY and SAM from MISS CHRISTMAS
Based on a novel of the same name, this one has Brooke D’Orsay and Marc Blucas as two of the stars rocking the festive sweaters while attending a seasonal event!

JESSICA and NICK from CHRISTMAS at the PLAZA
This one is all kinds of cute and has a full on Ugly Christmas Sweater scene with most if not all of the cast wearing their brightest and best. The film also happens to be a favorite of mine featuring Elizabeth Henstrige (from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Ryan Paevey.

While working his seasonal job, one has to admit, Josh’s elf shirt/sweater is pretty, well, festive. It’s all things jolly, even going to the details of having jingle bells! Of course, Gramps also wears his share of festive attire, too.

NAOMI and LIZ from NEVER BEEN CHRIS’D
This one follows two besties who return home for the season, and find they meet up again with their collective high school class’s crush, Chris. The film is, for the genre, different and I think for the most part Hallmark and the writers do the story very well. It also has a matchy-matchy sweater scene, though to be honest, I cannot remember if they actually wear the sweaters!

NATE from MAGICAL CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
In this film, about a woman who loses her Christmas spirit only to have a group of Christmas ornaments reinspire her love of the season. The wearer of the ugly Christmas sweater here is leading man Nate, played by Brendan Penny.

NORA from CHRISTMAS with the KRANKS
We all have probably seen this movie 100 times. In it, we meet Nora and Luther Krank, a married couple who, since their grown daughter won’t be home for Christmas decide to skip all festivities (including putting away Nora’s seasonal vest!) and go on a cruise instead. When Blair decides to come home instead, everything changes, and in order to pull of a last-minute Christmas party miracle, Nora pulls out her Christmas vest and gets to work!

SIERRA from FALLING for CHRISTMAS
Lindsay Lohan stars in this film about an heiress who loses her memory. Of course this means she requires clothes and while I wouldn’t categories her sweater as ugly in the way the term is usually used for a Christmas sweater, it’s also not one we’d maybe immediately gravitate towards.

TONI and BRI from HOLIDAY CRASHERS
One of the more unique Christmas movies of 2024, this Hallmark original ugly sweater scene crops up when besties Toni and Bri crash a Christmas party in their best ugly Christmas sweaters. The scene is part of a montage so it’s not featured in the same way some of these are, but it’s still cute and fun, and we admire the girl’s for going all in.
