FUNNY ROOMMATE CHARACTERS FROM MOVIES AND TV SHOWS!
There are all kinds of moments and tropes we love from storytelling. Some of us may find that first kiss magical and telling a story in a way, or maybe others love the funny complications that can happen in a roommate trope. We’re back today to spotlight some films and TV shows that follow this pattern trope, because sometimes we do love to see what fun the roommate characters from movies and TV shows can get into!

FUNNY ROOMMATE CHARACTERS FROM MOVIES AND TV SHOWS! Looking at some of the fun and memorable roommate characters from movies and TV shows. #Romance #Roommates #MovieList #TVShows #TVShow #Hallmark Share on XSome of these will, of course, be obvious. But one thing we do always try to do with these lists is to find some that are lesser known. It’s not entirely clear how well we’ll do with this plan because the research has to begin in earnest yet, but we’re going to give it all a chance and see what crops up. Many of these are roommate turn lover, too, but that’s probably because we do love a good love story, and that’s a favorite trope for writers, too. But we’ll try to find some good platonic roommates, too. Let’s see who we meet.
ROOMMATE CHARACTERS from MOVIES AND TV SHOWS
ALICE, GEORGE, HARRY and TEDDY from HOME AGAIN
This one is a bit more unconventional but mostly, I think it’s a charming story about a woman who befriends three guys, one of whom she grows a little too fond of, and the protective way they come to care about her and her kids.
Stream on Paramount+ or rent on places like Apple TV
BEN, DANNY and TUCKER from BABY DADDY
A silly, but cute show, this follows Ben, with his roomies who raise a baby when Ben ends up with a baby from a crazy ex.
Stream on Freevee or Hulu, at publication, or rent on places like Apple TV
BRIAN and JENNY from ALL OF MY HEART
A Hallmark flick, this follows two people who co-inherit a house and have very different plans for the property. It’s also a fan favorite of Hallmark fans. Stream on Hallmark Movies Now or purchase on Amazon
CAROLINE and MAX from 2 BROKE GIRLS
This sitcom made me laugh throughout and I quite enjoyed the story of two women trying to manage and succeed in accomplishing a dream. Plus, quite surprisingly, I think the end was actually sweet. Stream on Roku at publication or buy on places like Amazon
CHRISTOPHER and ALEXANDRA from HAPPY TOGETHER
Before he was even considering stepping into the cultural role that was Dr. McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey plays this studious college student who becomes roommates with a party girl named Alex.
CHLOE and JUNE from DON’T TRUST THE B IN APARTMENT 23
I binged this a few months ago, and did get some laughs from it, but the short-lived sitcom isn’t a favorite. Still, Krysten Ritter does well in her role. Purchase on places like Amazon
EDDIE and JANE from SOMEONE LIKE YOU
Hugh Jackman and Ashley Judd star in this comedy about roommates to more (which let’s be real, that’s what all of these probably are!) set in the world of news. Rent or purchase on places like Amazon or Apple TV roommate characters from movies and tv shows
THE EXES from THE EXES
The characters from The Exes are likable in a story about three divorcees who find each other as roommates through their lawyer. Stream on Paramount+, at publication
FELIX and OSCAR from THE ODD COUPLE
In one of the funnier roommate scenarios, The Odd Couple made me laugh. I haven’t seen the original show or movies, but did watch the short-lived TV revival and it was just fun. Stream on Paramount+ via Apple, at publication
GABI and SOFIA from YOUNG and HUNGRY
These two… they’re so cute and fun. Stream on Hulu, at publication
JACK and JOY from WHAT HAPPNES IN VEGAS
A comedy that starts out as a loathe relationship between two people who must live together and then of course, romance happens. Stream with Fubo, at publication, or rent with places like Apple TV
JACK, MICHAEL and PETER from THREE MEN and a BABY
Like so many films I’m rewatching, I’m sure this is another one modern culture says is “bad” and we shouldn’t like. It’s been a while since I saw this one, but I suspect I’d still enjoy it as is, and for the silly “good time” it provides. Stream on Disney+, at publication, or rent on places like Apple TV

I’m not sure if this one is liked or not, but this is a Hallmark flick (from the early days!) that I think is quite charming. It’s even one I’ve rewatched a few times.
Stream on PixL at publication roommate characters from movies and tv shows
JESS DAY and FRIENDS from NEW GIRL
This is one of the obvious titles, a TV show from Fox that was loved by many in my generation. Zooey Deschanel plays a schoolteacher who ends up rooming with three dudes, one of whom may end up being her true love, while the other two are become her best friends.
Stream on Hulu, at publication
JOY, MELANIE and VERONICA from HOT IN CLEVELAND
Super fun and entertaining, this follows three middle age best friends struggling with adult children, their careers and boyfriends, too.
Stream on Paramount+ or Pluto, at publication
PRETTY SMART
The gang from this short (one season) Netflix show is fun, but also not overly memorable. It follows opposite sisters who must live together when the smart sister’s life falls apart forcing her to move in with her ditzy sister and her unique roommates.
Stream on Netflix
SHERLOCK and JOAN WATSON from ELEMENTARY
I love these two in the modern, now over, CBS drama. I read a recap from back when the show was airing that remarks on the notion that part of what made later seasons of the show boring is the sameness of the friendship between Sherlock and Joan. In reality, I think part of what makes Elementary so good is the friendship. They’re just so good together and I love that, even though they do get in spats, there’s still always that deeper something that keeps them connected.
Stream on Paramount+ at publication
VALERIE and HOLLY from WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU
I think I’ve seen maybe three episodes of this sitcom with Jennie Garth and Amanda Bynes. The plot follows sisters who not only have an age gap, but are quite different. Rent or buy on places like Apple or Amazon

I haven’t watched many of these, but I love Caroline and Max from 2 Broke Girls!
I do too. They’re a little bit crazy sometimes, but in a fun way. ;)
