If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that nothing quite makes me feel so old as iconic anniversaries like iconic movies. Some of them are kind of “core” movies that I watched time and again as a kid. Each year I always look at the movie anniversaries. Mostly ones that fit the content we talk about here. Let’s see some of the big movie anniversaries 2025 titles that are marking a bit anniversary milestone this year.

WHEN in ROME, JANUARY 29, 2010 (15 years)
Kirstin Bell stars in this silly romantic comedy that, for me, does get a bit too silly. This said, I do enjoy watching this film every now and then. It’s about a woman who, after picking up coins from a fountain becomes the object of affection for four very different men.

IT HAD TO BE YOU, FEBRUARY 11, 2000 (25 years)
An underrated romance dramedy, this one follows two people planning their respective weddings over the course of a weekend in New York. Alias’ Michael Vartan stars.

JOE vs the VOLCANO, MARCH 9, 1990 (35 years)
Despite being a Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan pairing, I’ve never seen this film. It sounds like a kind of drama that follows a man who learns he’s dying and decides to go on a journey to learn to really live.

CINDERELLA, MARCH 4, 1950 (75 years)
This one is the classic animated film from Disney. It’s all about the helpful mice and fairy godmother, and of course falling in love with a song a dance.

ERIN BROKOVICH, MARCH 17, 2000 (25 years)
This one is the iconic Oscar winning film in which Julia Roberts portrays a real character, playing a determined law firm secretary who uncovers the secrets of a powerful corporation that is poisoning a small town. movie anniversaries 2025

All about the classic fairy tale, this live action film has Lily James as Ella, a girl who loses her father and must live under the cruelness of her stepmother and stepsisters. Of the Disney live action films, I think this one is my favorite (yes, I need to rewatch them all and decide the accuracy of this). This one seems to understand the assignment (which is to keep nostalgia) but also lets itself be free to add things (like an adorable meet cute) that help the film stand out as being unique and its own story.
Plus, though I was very against his casting, Richard Madden proves me wrong and plays quite a dashing prince!

ICE PRINCESS, MARCH 18, 2005 (20 years)
A Disney flick, this one follows a teen with raw talent who picks up figure skating against the advice of her scholarly minded mother. Michael Trachtenberg stars.

PRETTY WOMAN, MARCH 23, 1990 (35 years)
A modern type of fairy tale story, this one is about Richard Gere’s wealthy businessman who hires Julia Roberts’ escort Vivian to be his date during social events, but of course, something more happens between them.

THE SOUND of MUSIC, APRIL 1, 1960 (65 years)
Classic doesn’t seem to come close to describing how lovely this film is, but we’ll leave it at that because yes, The Sound of Music is classic and its timeless story about a novice who ends up finding unexpected love in the Von Trapp home is something we understand as being for all generations.

RETURN to ME, APRIL 7, 2000 (25 years)
Finding out they share an unexpected connection neither one of them are prepared for is the plot of this dramedy about two people who don’t expect how deep and meaningful that connection is. Like It Had to Be You, this is another underrated movie that I see virtually no one talk about. It IS bittersweet because the opening is sad, but it moves beyond that through the story that unfolds.

THE LONGEST RIDE, APRIL 10, 2015 (10 years)
Based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, this one hit its ten-year anniversary this year. It has Scott Eastwood in the titular role and has a romance between two people who must overcome some obstacles and when they help an elderly man, they become inspired by the love story he once lived.

KEEPING the FAITH, APRIL 14, 2000 (25 years)
Jenna Elfman led the cast in this underrated gem of a romance dramedy. It follows the best friend girl-next-door character who comes back home where she reunites with her besties, a man who is now a rabbi and another who is a priest! Of course, this causes all kinds of complications.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING, APRIL 21, 1995 (30 years)
A classic for its genre which is a romantic comedy, this delightful film has Sandra Bullock as a woman crushing on one of her regular transit customers who, when he goes into a common, accidentally gets mistaken for the man’s fiancé. The story is darling and fun and easily rewatchable.

POLLYANNA, MAY 19, 1960 (65 years)
Another title I watched many times as a kid. Though if we’re being honest, I cannot remember everything about this flick that has Hayley Mills in the titular role. Makes me now, just thinking about it, want to re-watch the movie.

POCAHONTAS, JUNE 23, 1995 (30 years)
If this was a “new” Disney release for you while you were a kid, well, this year it turns thirty! It follows Pocahontas and the friendship she has with an English soldier during the seventeenth century.

THE APARTMENT, JUNE 29, 1960 (65 years)
Jack Lemmon and Shiley MacLaine paired up in this film that is commonly tagged as a rom-com. It’s about an low level employee who lets execs use his place for “trysts” only to have his own relationships and office shenanigans complicate everything.

X-MEN, JULY 14, 2000 (25 years)
The Marvel film is about to turn 25 this year! Hugh Jackman led the cast as Logan aka Wolverine along stars like Anna Paquin and Patrick Stewart.

CLUELESS, JULY 19, 1995 (30 years)
Classic for its era and genre, Clueless is a typical teen comedy, but it’s feel good and is tons of fun, too. Alicia Silverstone plays the iconic Cher, a girl who “rules” her school and also falls for her annoying step-bro. The film is loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma.

TO CATCH A THIEF, AUGUST 5, 1955 (70 years)
Perhaps the most famous or well known Alfred Hitchcock flick, To Catch a Thief is a title I finally watched a year or so ago, and well, I was underwhelmed. It does entertain, but for being something so hyped and universally liked, it just didn’t “hit.” It has Carey Grant playing a cat-and-mouse game with a new thief.

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., AUGUST 14, 2015 (10 years)
Ten years ago, this fun flick made its debut in theaters. Henry Cavill leads the cast in this feature remake of the 60s show. It’s a stylish and super entertaining flick that dives deed into the spy game lore, plus it has a great sense of satire comedy.

RED, OCTOBER 15, 2010 (15 years)
I think I saw this film on a recommendation and didn’t really know much about it prior to that. But as it turns out it’s easily one of my favorites. It’s a good time about retired spies who come out of retirement to try and figure out who wants them dead. Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman star.

BOUNCE, NOVEMBER 17, 2000 (25 years)
Emotional and sad, this romantic drama has Ben Affleck and Gwenyth Paltrow starring as a couple who are drawn together only for their respective pasts to possibly tear them apart when a secret one of them is keeping threatens their present.

IT TAKES TWO, NOVEMBER 17, 1995
A classic, right? What girl of a certain age didn’t grow up seeing this one? Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen star as two very different girls who meet by chance and discover they look alike. It was kind of a version of The Parent Trap before the Lindsay Lohan remake the 90s film.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE NOVEMBER 23, 2005 (20 years)
Believe it or not the period drama feature Pride and Prejudice is celebrating 20 years this year! How I’m not sure but here we are. Despite coming after the famous A&E miniseries, this one still has lots of good going for it including its cast, and the stunning, sweeping scenery.

TANGLED, NOVEMBER 24, 2010 (15 years)
This is a Disney flick that is turning fifteen (yes, 15!) this year. It tells the animated story of the classic fairytale about a girl with beautiful blond hair and the villainous woman who keeps her hidden from the world. It also has the iconic “smolder,” so how can we not enjoy this one?

Despite seeing numerous titles like this in the past, I’ve actually not ever seen this classic adventure flick. It’s about a woman who is “abducted” on her trip to the Nile and the men in her life try to find her. This is definitely one of the titles on this movie anniversaries 2025 list that I still need to watch!

CLUE, DECEMBER 13 (40 years)
One title that probably falls into the “cult classic” favorites category, Clue, like its board game namesake tells the story of the iconic game characters becoming involved in a murder mystery.

CHOCOLAT, DECEMBER 15, 2000 (25 years)
A mysterious woman unroots the life of a small village with strict morals that believes she’s somehow going to corrupt their town. Johnny Depp has a smaller role in this with Juliette Binoche, Alfred Molina and Judi Dench starring.

SABRINA, DECEMBER 15, 1995 (30 years)
This one follows “the girl next door” who returns home and becomes part of a love triangle with the two sons of the house where her father was chauffer.

THE GREAT RACE, DECEMBER 17 (60 years)
A film I would have seen years ago, this one has an impressive cast. From Natalie Wood to Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk, it’s a memorable cast. The film follows rivals who decide to go on a race from New York to Paris.

THE FAMILY MAN DECEMBER 22, 2000 (25 years)
This is a film that’s about questioning the “what if” of choices. So, asking, what may happen if we would have chosen a different path? Nicholas Cage stars in the film about a businessman who lives an alternate reality.

MISS CONGENIALITY DECEMBER 22, 2000 (25 years)
Twenty-five years later and we’re still loving Miss Congeniality, the film about the plucky FBI agent who made a difference in her life by taking on a case that challenges her. Sandra Bullock features at the titular character.

THE ARISTOCATS, DECEMBER 24, 1970 (55 years)
I watched this animated Disney movie quite a few times as a kid. As someone who grew up having cats about, I think I loved the “adventure” the cats go on.
