15+ OF THE ROMANTIC MOVIES TO WATCH
It seems to be a kind of annual event around here to curate a list around this time of year of movies that fall under the romantic comedy movies to watch category. One of these days I’m not going to be able to do this because, let’s be real, there are always some repeats. Still, until that day, I rely on my own curiosity to track down underrated romantic comedies and of course, a few newer releases here and there.
LIST | SOME OF THE MORE UNDERRATED ROMANCE SCENES IN MOVIES
These aren’t all specifically romantic comedies. Some are more of a drama, and others may take on an at-your-own-interpretation opinion. No matter what, we do like to offer some variety and hopefully in this list that’s precisely what you find – some variety. There’s plenty of giggles but I’m also sharing some more true-of-life script scenarios. No matter what you spy on our list, we hope you see something that looks like it could be a fun watch.
PS; before we get started, if a lot of fan favorites are missing, check out some of our other romantic comedy lists including, 15+ FAVORITE “STAY IN” ROMANTIC COMEDY MOVIES TO WATCH! or 10+ of the Cute Romance Movies Perfect for Any Day.
ROMANTIC COMEDY MOVIES TO WATCH
1: 2 HEARTS
This one is way more bittersweet than probably any others on this list. If that’s not your jam, stay clear of this. Saying more I cannot do. If you watch it, you’ll know why. But prior to that bittersweetness, there is some darling rom-comness. Find, at publication, on Netflix
15+ OF THE ROMANTIC COMEDY MOVIES TO WATCH #ROMANCEMOVIES #ROMCOMS #ROMCOM #ROMANTICCOMEDY #GOODMOVIES #FEELGOODMOVIES #VALENTINESDAY Share on X2: FIRST DAUGHTER
On Instagram, Rae mentioned this one, and she’s right, it does seem to be more underrated than not. The plot follows Katie Holmes president’s daughter off to college, and maybe finding her first love. It’s sweet.
3: FOOLS RUSH IN
The end gets silly, but this is a fun movie about a man who, after a mysterious one night stand, finds the woman on his doorstep weeks later with some very unexpected news. It’s a fun romantic comedy that won’t be for anyone who like more wholesome concepts.
4: FOR LOVE OR MONEY
Featuring Gabrielle Anwar, this 90s rom-com is really pretty cute. It has Michael J. Fox as a hard-working concierge who falls for the girlfriend of one of his clients. Find on Starz
5: KEEPING THE FAITH
I don’t seen anyone talking about this one, but do remember really enjoying this title. It’s been a while since I saw it, but it’s a fun love triangle film about childhood friends, and the woman reuniting with her friends, one of whom is now a priest and the other a Rabbi. Find on HBO Max
6: THE KISSING BOOTH (TRILOGY)
Next to no one likes these. But I do. However I enjoy them as mindless watching. They follow teenager Elle and her tumultuous relationship with her best friend’s brother, Noah. Stream exclusively on Netflix
7: IT HAD TO BE YOU
This one is SUPER cute. I’ve seen it multiple times and it’s one of my mother’s favorites. Two people, planning their respective weddings, meet during a wedding planning weekend. Find with Pluto or Tubi.
8: MEET MY VALENTINE
I haven’t seen this one with Scott Wolf, but it looks like it may be interesting. The plot follows a man who, after learning he’s not well, sets out to ensure his family is cared for. Again… sounds super bittersweet but it does have a four-star average ratings, so maybe there is something good in there.
9: MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY
On Instagram, Britt shared this title with me as an underrated rom-com film and I think I agree. I do love this 1940s comedy that has some darkness, too, being set on the cusp of WWII. Still, it retains that mostly lighthearted banter and features a hilarious Amy Adams. Find on Starz
10: MY PERFECT ROMANCE
A little jagged in spots, this one is based off a Harlequin novel and features a fun story about a man looking to take his company to the next level and a woman with a unique dating app idea. Christopher Russell stars, who we’ll recognize from Hallmark.
11: NOT SINCE YOU
This is a really good romance dramedy that is a “harder” look at the realities of a relationship. But much to my immense surprise, it also chooses the better way to end, and I’m weirdly, so proud of the film for doing this! Also, you’ll see Will Estes from Blue Bloods as well as Christian Kane from Leverage.
12: NOTTING HILL
Finally watched this one in recent months. One of the more famous films with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, the plot follows Roberts American movie star and Grant’s quiet British book shop owner, with one of the most famous movie lines “I’m Just a Girl Standing in Front of a Boy…” found in this film.
13: THE OTHER END OF THE LINE
Featuring Jesse Metcalfe in the lead role, this is an adorable romantic comedy about a man who ends up forming an attachment to the customer service rep at his credit card company. I promise, it’s cute.
14: PERFECT ROMANCE
One of the older titles I’ve recently seen, this one is pretty cute. The picture quality is certainly not high definition (odd since you’d think it could be corrected with all the technology), but the story is sweet. Henry Ian Cusick (from MacGyver) plays in this story about a man who meets a woman through a personal ad. From there, we enter a fun comedy of errors that has a good heart even if its script is a little silly in places.
15: PERSONALLY YOURS
This one seems like a title I would have first seen as a CBS (or some network) TV movie. I remember thinking it was cute all those years ago. When I re-watched it years later (and even now, years ago), I still thought it was cute, but also noticed its production flaws. It follows a divorced couple who still may be in love. Or are they?
*Fun fact: this one is also known as Wilderness Love
16: THE ROYAL TREATMENT
Netflix’s newest, this is a royal romance trope that is more about its people over the “pretty” castle setting. I don’t love it in a new favorite kind of way, but it certainly has charms and is still fun.
Stream on Netflix
17: SAVED BY GRACE
Another one that won’t have a wide appeal. It’s more philosophical and bittersweet, plus it doesn’t have a deep connection in the romance (because the message is something different), but it’s still there and sweet. Oh, and Joey Lawrence stars, too.
18: WHAT IF
Daniel Radcliffe stars in this, a film that questions whether friendship can also be true love.
19: A WINTER ROMANCE aka AN AUTUMN ROMANCE
Featuring Chad Michael Murray, this one has been rumored to be releasing for a while now. It’s currently titling as A Winter Romance but you may also know it as An Autumn Romance or Colors of Love. For a TV production, it has a really good grasp on the romance and does impress me.
