SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 2023 RECAP: THE USUAL TWO MONTH CONTENT RECAP

Hello, there! Welcome back. We are – oh my gosh! – two months away from ringing in 2024. I’m not well. What plans do you have in this coming year? I have thought a great deal about things and life in the past couple of years, and while I have some ideas, whether or not they’ll pan out in the coming year, well, that remains to be seen. Until then, let’s go through our usual motions which is to look at the las two months of content here. So this is a September and October 2023 recap of content rather than a life catch up since there’s nothing new to report there.

LIST | ‘1989 (TAYLOR’S VERSION)’: RANKING THE VAULT SONGS AND REMINISCING

It’s November 1 (!!!), or very nearly, and we’re ready to look back on these past two months to see what we had fun writing about, and what readers clicked most on.

(Blog posts that, while not necessarily the most popular, were fun to write)

1: [OCTOBER] ‘1989 (TAYLOR’S VERSION)’: RANKING THE VAULT SONGS AND REMINISCING | It’s tradition here to spotlight the new albums Swift releases (the girl is a WHOLE cultural moment) and we continue this with 1989, her fourth re-record.

2: [OCTOBER] ‘BLEAK HOUSE’: AN INTRICATE AND EPIC BEAUTIFUL BRITISH MASTERPIECE | Re-watching this for the first time in years was lovely. Yes, it’s darky and heady sometimes, but also so good (and the ending is adorable).

3: [OCTOBER] ‘FOURTH DOWN AND LOVE’: THE TROPE HALLMARK RARELY USES | Super cute flick from Hallmark!

4: [OCTOBER] ‘HAPPINESS FOR BEGINNERS’ BOOK REVIEW: A SURPRISING READ | A novel that surprises me in all the good ways (even with some minor I-wish-this-were-different-things).

5: [OCTOBER] ‘LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT’: WHEN NETFLIX DOES SOMETHING RIGHT | One of, if not the, best romantic movies I’ve seen in a while. So good.

6: [OCTOBER] ‘THE MAID’ BOOK REVIEW: A COZY MYSTERY THAT CHARMS AND THEN DOESN’T | I really liked this book… and then didn’t as the end arrives. Will I still read the sequel? Yes, probably.

7: [SEPTEMBER] ‘THE MONEY PIT’: A FUNNY COMEDY WITH YOUNG TOM HANKS | Silly, but funny movie with Tom Hanks in the lead.

8: [OCTOBER] SOME OF THE BEST MOMENTS BETWEEN ‘ELEMENTARY’S’ SHERLOCK AND WATSON | Not a romantic relationship, but there’s just something about the bond between Sherlock and Watson that kept me returning. Despite an editorial (from back when the show was still on) saying it was boring because, in part, it didn’t have a romantic relationship, I strongly disagree. I think that part of the reason this show was so good was because there wasn’t and that certainly didn’t make the show boring in any way. And this coming from someone who loves a good romantic comedy movie.

9: [SEPTEMBER] TEN REASONS YOU MIGHT LIKE ‘SUITS,’ THE NETFLIX STREAMING SURPRISE | Reflecting on Suits as it enjoys new success on streaming.

10: [SEPTEMBER] ‘SWEET HOME ALABAMA’: A CLASSIC ROMANCE FOR ITS ERA | Finally added this to the archives.

THROWBACK FAVORITES | aka the section in which we take a peek at what I was writing about or posting this time last year.
