JULY AND AUGUST 2022 RECAP AND ROUND UP

by

Hey, there! We’re bringing back our usual two-month recap of these rapidly disappearing months with a July and August 2022 recap of content. This even includes content that I thought was super fun to put together (but didn’t crack the popular list). Basically, we’re just looking back at what’s been and what readers looked at most, too.

LIST | POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FORTY-EIGHT: NETFLIX WORKS ON LUSH ROMANCE + MORE

Here we are, first eight months of the year are gone (is anyone ok with this? I’m not because it means CLOSER to WINTER)! Cannot believe this, but regardless, let’s do this thing. Time for another rewind of our content.

»NEW DISCOVERIES AND SUCH«

1: MOVIES & TV. Ok, so this past month I watched the Hulu original The Princess. And the reason I’m sharing this is because it’s a WAY outside my comfort zone watch. That said, these last two months, I did see really good movies like Downton Abbey and Uncharted which in my opinion is WAY better than another recent adventure flick, and also on a trip, I finally started All Creatures Great and Small (series two) and finished last season of Mangum P.I. Can we talk about that ending!?

2: READING. I actually reviewed a NOVEL (!!) for the first time in months. The winner was Dani Pettrey’s The Deadly Shallows, the third novel in one of my favorite series.

3: ROAD TRIP. When I would say in videos (back when I filmed) or even here that I lead a boring life, I’m legit NOT joking. Last week I went on my FIRST trip probably since my grandmother passed away over fifteen years ago. We used to road trip out to see her now and again and saw her a few weeks before we lost her. While the trip and location didn’t totally live up to my idea of it, just the fact that I didn’t have to do x, y or z in the usual “routine” that is life was nice.

(Blog posts that, while not necessarily the most popular, were fun to write)

1: [July] ‘DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA’: THE MOVIE THAT’S LIKE A HUG | Finally saw the new Downton film and aww, you guys, it feels like a comfortable and warm hug.

2: [August] FEEL GOOD 80s MOVIE ‘BABY BOOM’ IS ALL HAPPINESS & SUCCESS | Love when I see something that I like more than I *think* I will.

3: [July] FILM ICON DREW BARRYMORE: FROM A PRINCESS TO SINGLE MOTHER | Love to highlight favorite movies with favorite stars through the years.

4: [July] FOREVER OTPs! LEAST TO MOST FAVORITE JANE AUSTEN COUPLES | I mean I always love putting a spotlight on Austen couples.

‘THE GRAY MAN’: THE RUSSO BROTHERS MAKE BLOCKBUSTER NETFLIX ACTION FLICK. REVIEW OF THE RYAN GOSLING FILM. ALL TEXT IS © RISSIWRITES.COM

5: [July] ‘THE GRAY MAN’: THE RUSSO BROTHERS MAKE BLOCKBUSTER NETFLIX ACTION FLICK | Not THE best ever, but actually a pretty decent and entertaining action flick.

6: [July] ‘MAGGIE’: A WHIMSICAL ROMANTIC COMEDY FROM HULU | This series (which probably won’t earn a season two) is actually pretty cute. Plus it has some nice romcom vibes while also stepping away from the romance in some of the episodes.

7: [July] POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION FORTY-FOUR: THE ONE THAT FINALLY HAS STORIES!When I write these weekly pop culture editions, I love the ones with ACTUAL stories best.

8: [August] MOVIE AND TV CHARACTERS WITH ACADEMIC ASPIRATION WHO MAKE SCHOOL COOL | Because I love spotlighting endearing characters.

9: [July] SOME TV CHARACTERS I SIMPLY DON’T CARE FOR: PART ONE | Because sometimes we just have to share about the things or characters we don’t love.

10: [August] ‘UNCHARTED’: THE BEST TYPE OF EXCITING ADVENTURE | Finally saw this – and honestly, it’s way better than another recent adventure film I saw. Plus the cast is pretty dang good.

11: [August] WHY ‘THE PRINCESS’ ISN’T THE ORDINARY PRETTY FAIRY-TALE WE LOVE | If you’d guess this is a WAY out of my comfort zone movies, you’d be RIGHT. This R-rated comedy(ish) and actioner is indeed WAY outside of the lines.

12: [August] WHY WHOLESOME ROMANCE MOVIES SHOULD MAKE A COMEBACK | Wrote this discussion post in regards to Hollywood films and why I wish we’d be able to capture again that unexplainable (a kind of “wholesome” feeling that I just cannot describe) feeling that 90s comedies and romcoms had in spades. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

    1. I hope you’d enjoy if you’d see it. I feel like the movies I tend to like are the ones critics and viewers like the least so I’m thinking I like the “unseal” movies. :)
