RANKING THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES of 2023: PART TWO

by

We are back, late though this is with our second part of favorite Christmas movies. There’s not as many as I had planned to share, but I did see some additional titles since I published part one. We do have to spotlight the ones I’ve seen, and we’re ready to share our ranking Christmas movies of 2023 part two.

LIST | 5 OF THE UNIQUE CHRISTMAS MOVIES YOU CAN WATCH THIS YEAR

Below there’s a host of familiar faces, some of which are my favorites. On the one hand, I don’t like not watching some of my favorites as soon as their movie debuts. Then on the other hand, I do love it because it’s saving the best films for last, and finding there’s a reason these actors star in some of the highest rated Christmas movies each year. Plus, there’s some new talent that we’re hopeful to see return in future movies.

Let’s discover what else we’ve been watching.

Ps: I’ll be seeing more movies in the next day or two, so we’ll add them as we see them.

RANKING THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES of 2023: PART TWO

Ranking from least to most favorite

A VERY ENGLISH CHRISTMAS (on AMAZON)

A Christmas flick you’ll find on Prime, this movie isn’t special. It follows a professional event planner who travels to England to attend her sister’s wedding. The reason I did end up watching this one in full is Kimberley Nixon, who period drama aficionados know from Cranford.

A NOT SO ROYAL CHRISTMAS (from HALLMARK)

Typical in many ways, A Not so Royal Christmas is sweet, and I give it credit for using the familiar royal trope is in different way.

TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT (from HALLMARK)

The first (and only!) Christmas movie I’ve seen from the ‘Movies & Mysteries’ side, I’d heard good things about this one, but didn’t love it. Disclosure, I didn’t finish it (but will). Like (almost) anything you’ll find this time of year, it’s sweet, yes, and does get more emotional than most (because it’s the Movies & Mysteries side), but just doesn’t stand out. Edit: I will admit, the more I watched, the more I did enjoy this one. I even bumped it up several spots in my “overall” ranking (below).

NAVIGATING CHRISTMAS (from HALLMARK)

Normal with all of its themes and concepts, Navigating Christmas isn’t unique, but I was surprised by how well I did enjoy it despite this. Best of all I like that the characters actually stay in a place that needs décor, rather than décor hanging everywhere, and the characters continuing to pile it on.

CHRISTMAS ISLAND (from HALLMARK)

Normally the films Andrew Walker features in, I rank high. I did enjoy this one, but there’s some things I didn’t care for, and I didn’t think there was anything super special about this one to help it stand apart. It’s definitely still charming and fun, just not what I hoped for.

MY CHRISTMAS HERO (from GREAT AMERICAN FAMILY)

Sweet, yes, this one wasn’t all that I wanted (mainly because of the script), but I do think it stands out because it openly discusses why God is important and what Christmas means, which isn’t always something Christmas movies lean into. Candace Cameron Bure stars in this.

A CHRISTMAS FOR THE AGES (from GREAT AMERICAN FAMILY)

Though the method of getting there isn’t extremely unique, this Great American Family movie is sweet. Mostly because it follows Savannah, a woman who decides to celebrate the unique traditions (from the 40s, 50s, and 90s) of the three women in her life. It also has threads of faith and interesting conversation about dating for lifetime connections rather than just for giggles. Oh, and in Christmas trivia fun, Natasha Bure stars, who is Candace Cameron Bure’s daughter.

MAGIC IN MISTLETOE (from HALLMARK)

This one surprises me (in good ways). I remember thinking it could be cute back when I shared it on our December 2023 schedule. But it’s better than I anticipated, and I did enjoy that it takes the character, who Paul Campbell plays, in unexpected place and a direction.

HOLIDAY HOTLINE (from HALLMARK)

This one is darling. Featuring Niall Matter, a network favorite, the film follows a man and woman who meet in unexpected ways, and form a bond neither one realizes. The concept has been done before, but how this one is filmed and just the general feel of the movie, makes it seem a little different.

SEALED WITH A LIST (from HALLMARK)

This one is also cute. It’s about a woman who assumes she’s earing a hard worked for promotion, only to be assigned to train the new director of quality control. Everything changes when she is forced to make changes and follow her once dreamed for plans. Evan Roderick and Katie Findlay co-star.

CHRISTMAS IN NOTTING HILL

Very normal, but super cute. With it’s (mostly) fresher faces leading the cast, the script just works and is a charming way to spend part of your night.

A BILTMORE CHRISTMAS (from HALLMARK)

It may be an “easy” thing to put this one in first place, but A Biltmore Christmas is good. It’s old-fashioned and charming, and lovely to watch. Plus, the acting is really good, and I love the easy-going banter and sequences between the pair. Finally, the hero feels like a good hero, maybe because he’s from the 1940s, and the writers aren’t imposing some “rules” on him.

Combining the movies from our ‘part one,’ here’s how I’d rank every Christmas movie I’ve seen from 2023. Ranking from least to most favorite.

How many of our ‘part two’ titles did you see? Do any rank as a favorite of yours? Are any of these titles you didn’t care for? Which ones do I need to make time for yet? Which ones do you still plan to watch? Comment all of your thoughts below. Let’s meet up in the comments.

  1. Thank you for putting together this list. I love Christmas movies, but lately I have gotten so overwhelmed with so many coming out all at once that I either jump in and regret it or don’t watch anything but my favorites. Well not this year, thanks to your list I have watched your top 4 so far and the top 2 are also my favorites hands-down! Thanks again! And please do this every year!

    1. Thanks for your kind comment! I’m so glad this was helpful, and I relate about the Christmas movie season being overwhelming. It didn’t used to be. I watched way back when there were only 5 or so new premieres and part of the fun was the anticipation of waiting for the new movies. Now, every time you turn around, there’s something new on. ;) I’m so glad you found some new ones to enjoy! :)

  2. Love me a good list and Christmas movie lists are, of course, the best. “A Biltmore Christmas” is high on the list for me, as well. If you have the chance I HIGHLY recommend “Miracle in Bethlehem, PA” (Hallmark) and “A Paris Christmas Waltz” (GAC), among a plethora of other lovely titles, those two have stuck with me!

Oh! And I wanted to let you know, your content sections are always so helpful!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind comments and thoughts! I appreciate knowing this and what is helpful. :) I had ‘Paris Christmas Waltz’ down on my content calendar a while back to review, and hadn’t seen it yet so I had to swap it out for something else. But I want to watch it AND I heard ‘Miracle’ was really good! Definitely two more to add to the watch list. :)
